Thurs 17th Feb (Week 5)- Willem Hollmann will be giving a lecture entitled ‘Metaphors we define ourselves by: a ‘cool’ new progressive construction in Dutch’

Thurs 3rd March (Week 7)- David Crystal will be giving a lecture entitled ‘Internet Linguistics’…Yes Ladies and Gentlemen DAVID CRYSTAL is coming to Lancaster!! We’re very excited and hope you come along…if you’re early they’ll be free drinks and nibbles too.

Wens 16th March (Week 9)- Christin Kirchhuebel (from York University) will be giving a lecture on forensic linguistics. Christin originally studied her Undergraduate degree at Lancaster Unviersity and she’ll be talking about how she got into a career in forensic linguistics and also telling us a bit about her PhD topic (whether you can tell someone is lying from their voice).

Furness L.T3, 5pm

…These lectures will all last approximately an hour and a half. We’ll be having socials after each of them so feel free to come along to just the social.

Chris Wade, who’s a graduate of Lancaster’s LAEL department, is coming to Lancaster to chat to us all about all the excitment of a career in Speech and Language therapy.

Hi again!

Don’t forget tonight is our first lecture of the year. Neil Smith will be giving a lecture at 7pm in Elizabeth Livingston. It’s free for all members and is aimed at all levels so please come along :) .

We also have our first social of the year tonight…it starts at 8.15 in County bar. Bring some money along and we’re sharing takeaway :)

Hi everyone!

Hope you’re all glad to be back and are settling back into the swing of University life once more :) . If you want to know what we’re up to in the first term…Just click here for a copy of our first term social calender!

On the ‘Introductions’ social night (Tues 19th Oct) we also have a guest lecture by Neil Smith entitled ‘Modularity, Modality, Memory & Mind: Evidence from a polyglot savant’. Exciting times! Don’t worry the title sounds posh but it does promise to be a very interesting lecture thats acessible to all. We will send round an email about times and the venue- hope to see you there!
